Welder

South Windsor, CT  ·  Reports to: Production Supervisor / Weld Lead

Perform fitting and welding of structural and pipe weldments. Handle, cut, and perform weld preparation and completed welds in accordance with applicable welding procedures and codes. Use GMAW and GTAW welders and cutting and shaping tools to meet drawing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare parts that must be welded
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Requirements

  • 2–3 years work experience or equivalent school experience in welding
  • Good understanding of inspection methods and techniques
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints with understanding of GD&T
  • Forklift operating experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Fabrication tooling knowledge (drill press, hydraulic press, band saw, belt sander)

Ongoing Training

  • Pass three weld tests to ADM procedures within the first month: GTAW stainless-to-stainless pipe, GTAW steel-to-steel pipe, GMAW steel-to-steel pipe or structural
